HOCKEY NOT AS DANGEROUS AS SKIING

More brain injuries, percentage wise, occur from bike injuries or kids falling down the stairs than from playing minor hockey.

The Canadian Institute for Health Information showed more than 2,300 hospital admissions resulted from skiing- and snowboarding-related injuries in the winter of 2012, compared to 1,114 hockey players who landed in a hospital bed.

There are significantly more registered hockey players than skiers in Canada.

Hockey Canada change in body checking age, consider this: There are 64 Peewee-aged Rep teams in the Greater Toronto Hockey League, but only 12 in AAA. There are 474 other teams in the GTHL, either too young or too old, who won't be affected in any way by the determination made this weekend by Hockey Canada. one concern about the age change for body contact being altered. It has to do with what happens to boys at the ages of 13 and 14. Those are the puberty ages. Those are the ages where some kids are shaving and are six feet tall and they're playing with and against kids the same age who have yet to develop physically in any adult kind of way.The disparity in size and strength concerns me in an introduction kind of way. Visual evidence and medical evidence likely conflict on this

What I'd like to see Hockey Canada do is mandate body checking at the AAA level only, maybe at AA, and remove it from all other levels entirely. Ken Dryden is right when he says the rules of women's hockey may be more suited for the majority of minor hockey than anything else
