It is a little bit silly to make a list.

Why?

Some kids at this age do not play Spring AAA hockey. There are alot of good players who feel they will be better off doing other forms of development.

The kids dominating in Spring AAA are those who got a head start on other kids.

it is too early to be ranking kids. Watch them play a couple of years of Novice first.

Is it silly to make a list? Maybe, but it is what it is. It is a list of kids who at this point in time are leaps and bounds beyond your average city league player. I have no doubt that there are some good players out there who chose not to engage in spring / summer hockey who may develop into great players. Personally, I feel that it is important for a child's development to play other sports throughout the year. This multi-disciplined philosophy should, in theory, produce a well rounded athlete by taking abilities learned in other sports and applying them to each. Given this, each parent or guardian is free to do whatever they choose. As for watching these players for a couple of years in Novice first, well, I can tell you that the kids on this list (who I have seen play) are capable of playing at the Atom level (today) at least. I would even dare to say some at the double letter level.

I think it is somewhat unfair of you to say that players who dominate AAA hockey are kids who got a head start. What kind of a head start are you talking about? I know for a fact that one player on that list has only been playing for 3 years. What head start did he get? What about attributing a player’s success to hard work, dedication, or love of the sport? Do not diminish these kids’ abilities by saying that they got a head start. At the very least, say that they have natural athletic ability?????

All this being said, I think your point is lets wait and see how good these players really are if and when other players catch up to them. Only time will tell. Typically what I hear is, ‘’Wait until puberty hits’’ or ‘’Wait until hitting comes into the picture. Some players cannot adapt…..’’ These are all ‘X’ factors that cannot be accounted for. No one is saying that these kids will dominate forever. Just that these kids are some of the best NOW.

Let me ask you this...how are all these kids doing at school? :(

I never put down any of these kids. I just said any list is silly at this point. the fact that parents take this as a personal insult makes my point.

My kids long ago finished amateur hockey. I go to arenas to watch friend's kids or nephews play. It is incredible to me how many parents obsess with their kids "rankings" at the age of 5 or 6.

Here is a life lesson. 99.999% of these kids will be playing in the same beer league in 15 years.

Let them enjoy and play at the age of 5 or 6 and do not pin rankings on their head. I know the kids do not read these forums but, believe it or not I have seen parents show their kids stuff written here.

Sorry for not writing in french. I am originally from out West.

First off, you don t have to apologize for writing en anglais. Unfortunately, I cannot speak for the academic exploits of the children on this list. My child is doing quite well in school. I can also tell you that some of the parents of these players are highly educated and very successful. I would doubt that any reasonable parent would sacrifice education for hockey. As for obsessing with rankings, I am sure that there are some fanatics out there. However, logic dictates that only a few should obsess over rankings. Those who obsess should naturally be those whose children are at the very top. Everyone else just plays. Furthermore....who ranks these kids? It’s certainly not Hockey Quebec. I think what we see here are the opinions of some well informed hockey people (and there seems to be many of these types in this forum). I agree with you. Most of these players will end up playing in some garage league. No one here is saying that these kids will play pro. Like I said earlier...they are just some of the best now. I also agree with regards to letting these kids play. At this age, they should have fun. The day that my children tell me that they no longer want to play hockey is the day I take them out of the game. Its that simple. Finally, I am very proud of my children’s exploits both in academia and extracurricular activities. My boy is young, creative, hardworking and mature for his age (I find). My wife and I are very proud of him and my other children, so when someone tries to diminish their success in anyway it’s natural to want to defend them. So if this makes me a silly person, then silly I am. That being said, I am looking forward to this AAA season.

Iknow a few kids who did not play Novice A. They played novice B. One has gone to play in the NHL. The other one is little younger - but lets say he is probably one of the best PW defensemen in the province. Ranking kids at novice is ridiculuous!

M. Lac St-Louis, M. Hockeyforkids,

First of all, weren't you the one who asked who are the the kids to watch this year!

And 2nd show me a list with ranking, there was no ranking I didn't see numbers next those names, the kids I saw playing are amazing to watch they bring passion to the game and they can play a good game and it's beautiful thing to watch these kids play at this age group.

I know my son enjoys going out there and playing with his friends but he knows for him to get to the next level he needs to work hard in practice in school etc...this my friend is a life lesson in everything you do, in order to achieve you need to practice hard even at 4,5,6 years old...because all these kids have a dream and I will dare to say, yes to make the NHL, we all had dreams, some dreams come true, and some just end up as dreams.

Back in the day, kids were working at 9 and 10 years old, now 4,5,and 6 years old have DS, IPODS, PLAYSTATIONS ETC...sports makes for a good balance even if there's competition, life is about competition, I’m all about having fun but we all need competition in life, and starting at 4 or 30 we need to start somewhere...

So, I agree ranking kids is not really proper, but mentioning names for does kids who practice hard and play hard should get full recognition.

This is my point. I know alot of guys playing college hockey and high levels who were in the lowest levels at a young age.

The common denominator is what put them over the top is that when they turned 12+ years old, they made the decision to dedicate themselves and work on their game.

It is great that parents take an active interest in their child at the age of 4 to 6 or whatever. However, lets be honest at that age the dream is as much the parents' dream as it is the child's dream. What is the purpose of naming kids at that young an age in a forum like this. I am curious.

hockey4kids, LSL,

Je vais l'écrire dans votre langue puisque vous ne semblez pas comprendre...

Don't you guys know how to read ???

You are both right - BUT - You're totally off topic.

We're talking about kids who dominate their level NOW - no one is trying to extrapolate their current performance in the future and forecast who the next NHL star is going to be...

And if you are worried about how these kids are doing in school - seeing how you both can't read - I hope you two have tutors to help your kids with their homework...
